The proposal is based on recycling as the start point of a sustainable approach, Innovation as a fundamental part of the aesthetic impact on the facade, and the Pyrenees as an interpretation of the landscape, in a way that it can relate to it seamlessly as well as by solving the harshness of the existing facade.
The idea begins by developing a new cladding system as a “second skin” and maintaining the existing one behind it. The new cladding is made out of recycled skis which are placed on an aluminum substructure, therefore, allowing it to ventilate fully, and also giving it its final finish appearance. The color hue selected allows a harmonic integration within Andorra’s landscape.

Se propone la realización de una idea basada en el reciclaje como punto de partida de sostenibilidad; la innovación como parte fundamental del impacto estético de la fachada y el concepto Pyrénées como interpretación del entorno, a modo de relacionarse con él y a la vez romper con la dura y ciega fachada actual.
Para desarrollar la propuesta se comienza por realizar una segunda piel, manteniendo el cerramiento actual de ladrillo. Este nuevo cerramiento se realiza con esquís reciclados colocados sobre unos rastreles de aluminio, el cual le permite ser una piel ventilada, y que además le daría el acabado final a la fachada. La gama de colores seleccionados le permite un juego de integración armónico dentro del paisaje de Andorra.

The Proposal for the new Miami Seaplane Terminal responds and integrates the space from an architectural, urban design, and landscape perspective. A solution that aside from being a building facility that answers the program requirements with a sustainable approach, it also becomes an extension of a new urbanized green area, a public space that dignifies the island and its coastline, as well as enhances the visual relationship with the port of Miami amd Bayfront Park. It is a stretch of land where an "elongated green blanket" gradually changes its topography to become the green roof of the terminal.

La propuesta de la nueva Terminal de Hidroaviones en Miami debe integrar el lugar de intervención desde un punto de vista paisajístico, rotundo pero sobrio, que le permita ser - además de unas instalaciones que den servicio a los usuarios de la Terminal de Hidroaviones - una prolongación de una nueva zona verde urbanizada que juega con la manipulación de la topografía para transformar gradualmente el espacio púbico del paseo marítimo en parque y cubierta del edificio. Se trata de una manta verde que dignifica el perímetro costero de la isla, un espacio grato de ver desde la tierra, mar y cielo.

The FAD has organised the second edition of the Public Corners competition that promotes the participation of the citizens with the goal of improving ten corners of the city of Barcelona, one for each one of its districts. These are emblematic spaces located in central zones in the different districts that, owing to the constant transformation of the city, have turned into residual corners. The competition will extend over ten months, from April 2009 until March 2010. The FAD will propose each month and a pre-selection jury will choose three finalist projects to be published in the web www.racons.fad.cat website. In April 2010, a second jury will choose the winning proposal for each corner, applying criteria such as viability, visibility, originality, durability, sustainability and complexity. To launch the competition, the FAD proposed the reform of two streets of medieval origin situated in the district of Ciutat Vella: Malnom and Picalquers. Amplificador Solar (Solar Amplifier) by Evangelina Cambón and Alberto Casero; De dins a fora (Inside Out) by Diana Usón and Pau Sisquella; and De lóbrego a sombreado (Gloomy to Shady) by Katherine Bedwell were the first three proposals selected.

El FAD ha convocado la segunda edición del concurso Rincones Públicos que promueve la participación ciudadana con el objetivo de mejorar diez rincones de la ciudad de Barcelona, uno por cada uno de sus distritos. Se trata de lugares emblemáticos ubicados en las zonas céntricas de los diferentes distritos que, debido a la transformación constante de la ciudad, se han convertido en rincones residuales. El concurso se prolongará durante diez meses, desde abril de 2009 hasta marzo de 2010. El FAD propondrá cada mes un rincón y un jurado de preselección escogerá tres proyectos finalistas que se publicaran en la página web www.racons.fad.cat. En abril de 2010, un segundo jurado escogerá la propuesta ganadora de cada rincón valorando criterios como la viabilidad, la visibilidad, la originalidad, la durabilidad, la sostenibilidad y la complejidad. Para dar inicio al concurso, el FAD propuso la reforma de dos calles de origen medieval ubicadas en el distrito de Ciutat Vella: Malnom y Picalquers. Se dice que hoy en día un paseo por esas calles puede resultar aislado, solitario y sombrío en plena zona céntrica. ¿Pero realmente un lugar con estos adjetivos tiene que resultar desagradable para el paseante, para el descubridor de remotos rincones dentro del caos de la ciudad? Esta mañana he pisado ese pequeño laberinto de estrechos callejones algo húmedos, tengo que reconocerlo, pero especialmente tranquilos…y el silencio experimentado era sorprendente y grato a mis oídos.
La luz tenue - que generan las rajas de luz que se cuelan entre los apretados edificios y que delimitan esos estrechos viales -puede resultar más bien intrigante y no desagradable…descubrir las pátinas y texturas de los materiales en su pleno estado de madurez avanzada es incluso enriquecedor para la retina y en ningún caso son sinónimo de fealdad o dejadez.
Estos callejones te permiten experimentar un autentico viaje al interior de la ciudad, a sus entrañas, a un lugar más intimo que te obliga por unos instantes a pensar en el pasado, en el número de personas que han paseado por ahí, en la diversidad de personajes que han podido y viven por allí, y en su manera de vivir… en un lugar donde ya hace mucho que las agujas del reloj del tiempo dejaron de moverse y que te obliga a reflexionar sobre si verdaderamente o no es tan residual como algunos lo describen.
Pasar de un espacio lóbrego a uno sombreado es la intención de la intervención. Se trata de recrear un bosque sombrío donde la luz se vaya colando por el recorrido de los callejones. Para ello, se manipulan los pavimentos de las calles Malnom y Picalquers para resaltarlos como si fueran manchas de luces y se introducen una serie de leds en los puntos más oscuros para iluminar verticalmente estos espacios, a modo de evocar unos rayos de sol. También se dibujan, en algunas de las fachadas del recorrido, las sombras proyectadas de árboles y se grafía en el pavimento unas siluetas humanas, como si se tratase de una invitación a descubrir ese nuevo lugar sombrío, pero agradable de visitar.

ELEMENTARY AND PRE-SCHOOL IN OLOT Due to the conditions of the site - located on the outskirts of the town and where there is a non existence order or pattern of the urban fabric – the proposal for the new school needed to give character and identity to the neighborhood that it belongs to, but at the same time had to be a building that would blend chromatically with its surroundings. In order to achieve this, earth tones were selected as well as natural materials such as wood, copper, and brick. The proposal Intends to adapt fully to the considerable existing grade level changes, and utilizes a box-like modular solution to define the corner at the highest grade level and which also serves as a background surface. The buildings are semi buried and stepping. The uses are divided into two wings to separate the pre-school program from the elementary school, yet united throughout the different patios. The main entrances to both schools are articulated through both corners at Pou del Glaç Street – at the highest grade levels of the site – and the sport court as well as the library have an additional entrance from Reis Catolics Avenue, so that they can be both visited independently from the school opening hours. The zigzagging perimeter of the intervention leaves some punctual dilatations on the sidewalk, which are meant to be used as public exterior gardens and resting spaces at the points where a more amplitude exists.

The site is located nearby a natural park 20 miles NW of Barcelona. It is a magical place, surrounded by pine trees,oaks, and holm oaks and scented by the perfume of wild bushes and flowers...

The peculiarity of the natural setting, the views of the valley and the functionality that the client demanded made us think of those Californian homes designed by Richard Neutra back in the 50’s.
The house with a “V” shape plan had to be horizontal, tectonic, but at the same time friendly and respectful with the forest. It had to levitate on the site in order to simulate weightlessness.
The materials chosen –limestone, wood and steel – had to integrate well with the surroundings, and the color scheme was carefully studied, selecting sober and neutral tones that would blend seamlessly with the site’s natural background setting.

The lot has a peninsula-shape and a slope with a Southwest orientation and a street that surrounds it, except on the north side which limits with a neighboring site.
The design program for the house needed to adapt itself to a young couple with two small daughters. They required comfort, functionality and transparency; this is why we decided to design fluid spaces that had a continuous relation with the exterior of the house.
Due to the characteristics of the lot, the complexity of the project was to solve and define-with architectural elements-which were the public facades and which were the private ones. We decided to make two volumes to well define the most intimate part of the woods in order to keep it, as much as possible, away from the street.
Therefore, the house is placed on the highest point of the site and it is resolved with the placement of two wings that form a V-shape plan.

Casa Rambed: una vivienda en el bosque. 2006-2008

A las faldas de la montaña la Mola se sitúa el solar de intervención. Es un lugar mágico, rodeado de naturaleza: pinos, encinas y robles perfumados con una variedad de aromas de arbustos autóctonos y la humedad de la tierra que los aguarda...

La particularidad del entorno natural, las vistas hacia el valle y la funcionalidad que pedía el cliente, llevaron a pensar en aquellas casas americanas diseñadas en los años cincuentas, de las quizás sea el mejor ejemplo las de Richard Neutra construidas en California.
Debía ser una casa con líneas horizontales, tectónica, pero sobretodo dulce y respetuosa con el bosque, que no se asentara bruscamente sobre el terreno, al contrario, debía levitar sobre la tierra y simular la ingravidez.
Los materiales seleccionados -piedra, madera y hierro- también debían integrarse con el lugar, se buscaron tonos sobrios y neutros que se diluyeran suavemente en el paisaje.

El solar, con forma peninsular, tiene una pendiente orientada hacia el suroeste y una calle circundante. Solo la parte norte linda con una parcela vecina.
El programa debía adaptarse a una familia joven con dos niñas pequeñas. Se exigía comodidad, funcionalidad y transparencia, por eso se decidió hacer espacios fluidos que tuvieran una relación constante con el exterior.
Debido a las características del terreno, la complejidad era resolver y delimitar con la arquitectura cuales serían las fachadas públicas y cuales las privadas. Se decidió implantar dos volúmenes que delimitaran la zona más intima del bosque para mantenerla más alejada de la calle.
Así pues, la vivienda se sitúa en la zona más alta de la parcela y está resuelta en dos alas que forman una planta en forma de “V”.
